Penalties for Kentucky DWI

While the legal limit for intoxication is .08% blood alcohol content, state DUI laws allow law enforcement to charge a motorist with driving under the influence in Kentucky even with a lower BAC. An arrest could be based on an officer's decision that you are impaired. The penalties for a first offense can include loss of license, fines, jail, community service and enrollment in an alcohol awareness program. If there were aggravating circumstances such as excessive speeding or an accident with injury, the fines and jail term could be increased. Being convicted of drunk driving in Covington will result in a criminal arrest record, which could hurt your ability to find or keep a job, open a credit account and, depending on the circumstances, vote.
