Guardian 3060
The Guardian 3060 is an advanced version of the Guardian 3050 model and includes several enhancements to the device. The most substantial enhancement in the Guardian 3060 is the addition of fuel cell technology that helps reduce false positives (when the device incorrectly detects alcohol in the breath sample). Additionally, the Guardian 3060 device includes an auto calibration feature that eliminates the need to take the device into a service center for calibration. The Guardian 3060 also employs two deterrent methods to prevent the operator from providing a false sample and driving while intoxicated. The hum tone feature requires that a user first hum into the device before providing a breath sample. This helps minimize bogus air samples. In addition, users are required to blow, then suck into the device in order to assure a correct sample.
The Guardian 3060 also has an on-board data logger that records every interaction with the user and the vehicle. This information contains date, time and breath alcohol level and can be retrieved later for review by law enforcement or the courts. Another feature of the Guardian 3060 is the Memo Minder that uses audio and visual reminders to count the days between scheduled service appointments and can be set to disable the vehicle if the user misses an appointment. As a circumvention feature, the Guardian 3060 employs a Rolling Retest that requires that the user take additional tests while operating the vehicle to assure that the user’s breath alcohol level is still within legal limits. Finally, features such as programmable variable driving privileges can be set to allow the user to have the opportunity to drive the vehicle only during specific days and/or times.
The Guardian 3060 Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID) is used in state managed programs that allow individuals convicted of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) the opportunity to operate a vehicle under electronic supervision. BAIIDs provide an option for regulating repeat offenders who have proven that they will continue to operate their vehicle while intoxicated. Studies have indicated that BAIIDs, such as the Guardian 3060, are effective methods for preventing repeat offenders from driving while intoxicated. A qualified and knowledgeable DWI attorney can recommend pursuing the use of a BAIID such as the Guardian 3060 as a sentencing alternative to complete license suspension or vehicle impound.
